Cancelled

IVF #2  was cancelled this last Saturday due to two lead follicles taking over and stopping the growth of all 11 smaller follicles. We got in last night from Denver.

When am I ever going to get any good news?

On To CCRM

Skip forward a few months and here we are again, headed into IVF #2.  This time, we're pulling out the big guns and heading to CCRM. Here are the details:

- Dr. Surrey is our guy at CCRM. I have only spoken with him over the phone, and apparently, he will also be out of town on vacation in Spain (must be nice) while I am in town stimming and for my retrieval. Another Doc in the practice will handle my case. Apparently this is common at CCRM. Not sure how I feel about it.

- I am on their protocol #5 (They have several and categorize them by number), which for me is EPP/Antagonist. I took Estrace for 14 days, then 150 Menopur in the morning and 300 Follistim at night, along with 100mg Clomid and Dex for the first 5 days.

- I am currently on stim day 5, and this morning was my first monitoring ultrasound (which I had done locally by one of my old clinics here- not a good idea. ugh.). Doc at old clinic found 10 follies, 4 of which are large and 6-7 which are smaller. The largest follie measured 14mm today. Tomorrow I start my first Ganarelix shot- so hopefully those smaller follies will have a chance to catch up and that lead one will chill out.

- I'm trying hard to find some hope somewhere along this road. A part of me is really starting to consider stopping trying to have another child. I have a gorgeous daughter who is about to turn 3, and a wonderful 13 year-old stepson. Perhaps my luck is up and instead of agonizing and putting my life on hold for who knows how long to have this one last child, I should just move on and spend my time appreciating my blessings. Something to think about..

- We leave for Denver tomorrow morning, and will be there for at least 6 days. Who knows what this cycle will hold. My response this time around seems so far less than stellar, but I've heard EPP is a low and slow growth. At this point, I just want for it to be over.

- My therapist tells me that I'm allowed to bitch and moan and worstcasescenario all day long, but I have to embrace the fact that there is SOME HOPE in there somewhere. So I will try to find it. I'll let you know how it goes.

Not Normal

Or should I say.... No Normals.

That's the result of my first IVF. No normals out of 3 blasts. I'm devastated.

Apparently there is something really wrong with my eggs. How I conceived my daughter is a mystery to me now.

These are dark, dark days.

Progress Report

Infertility can drive a woman mad. I think I'm coming close to madness. I'm currently smack-dab in the middle of my first round of IVF.  I've been stimmed, retrieved, fertilized, biopsied, and now frozen. Those darling eggs of mine. Here's the bullet points.

  • Stim for one week, 20 units MicroLupron, 225iu's Bravelle, 75iu's Menapur.
  • 12 eggs retrieved. This was 5 or so lower than my RE thought we would get. Sad face.
  • 9 mature, 7 fertilized.
  • 6 still hanging in there day 3. 4 8-celled, 1 7-celled, 1 6-celled.
  • By day 6, only 3 make it to biopsy and freeze.
  • Of those 3, 2 are "very good" quality, on is "not so good."
  • CCS results will take 2 weeks. Expecting results 1/27.
So we wait. I have officially entered the land of the infertile. I am the only gay woman that I've seen on all of the infertility boards. I'm the only lesbian I've seen that has had 3 miscarriages. I'm devastated by this process, and it's hard to just keep it together.

So that's me, where I am. In between madness and hope.
